A Car Seat Education Program for Families in the Upper Peninsula

Keeping kids safer on their first ride and every ride.

THE KIDS ALWAYS RIDE SAFELY (KARS) PROGRAM PROVIDES LOW-COST CAR SEATS TO U.P. CHILDREN.

Michigan law requires children to be properly buckled in a car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4-feet-9-inches tall.  Children must ride in a car seat or booster seat until they reach the age requirement of the height requirement, whichever comes first.

KARS EDUCATION SESSIONS

All purchases include the car seat best suited for your child as well as a 30-minute, per child, hands-on training with a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST).

KARS WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC) PROGRAM;

  • Eligible families can purchase car seat education sessions as their children grow.
  • Children should be re-evaluated periodically to ensure they are in the correct car seat for their size.
  • If additional seats are needed, education sessions may be purchased at the Extended Family prices.

KARS EXTENDED FAMILY PROGRAM FOR ALL U.P. RESIDENTS:

  • Parents, grandparents, and other caregivers are encouraged to participate.
  • The children you transport do not need to be enrolled in WIC to take advantage of the Extended Family prices.
