Sault Tribe-Anishnaabek Community and Family Services (ACFS) Logo

Anishnaabek Community and Family Services provide human services or social services for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. ACFS manages 30 grant contracts, with funding from the Sault Tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Justice, USDA and state of Michigan. The contracts are related to one another and are combined to provide the most efficient services within three primary components—Child Placement, Advocacy Resources and Direct Assistance. Each component has its own mission:

Direct Services: To provide direct assistance to tribal members experiencing financial and other difficulties.

Child Placement: To improve the outcomes of safety, permanency and well being in each program area of the Child Placement component, to include Adult Protective Services.

Advocacy Resource Center: To provide supportive services that meet the needs of victims of crime in a culturally competent manner.

Sault Tribe-Early Childhood Department

Early Childhood Programs target children from infancy through preschool and pregnant women.

All of our classrooms are staffed by a Full-Time Instructor, who is supported by full-time and part-time aides.  All classrooms follow the Creative Curriculum; expose children to Ojibwe teachings, and Anishinaabemowin (our Ojibwe language).  Children also receive nutritious meals.

Children receive these services in a safe, nurturing, educational, culturally-appropriate setting.  Our classrooms provide children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically.  Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities.
